Saving Money

So, no wedding blog yet. Actually I still can't think of a title, but anyways. I have some exciting news to share with you guys.

I am really racking my brain trying to cut costs in every way I can. Weddings are freaking expensive in case you haven't heard.

My awesome dad is covering most of the costs, but the decorations, invitations, programs, and dress are up to me. So how do I save money on flowers?

Step 1.
Decide that fake flowers will be just as nice as real flowers, especially when you have an aunt that is crafty as hell and would absolutely LOVE to put together some nice flower arrangements for you.

Step 2.
Shop around local crafts stores and Wal Mart. Realize that paying $2.00 per FAKE rose is ridiculous and start feeling like a failure.

Step 3.
Call sister and complain. When she seems distracted and acts likes she doesn't care if you can't afford flowers for a wedding, hang up and pout.

Step 4.
Put on a determined face and turn to the interwebs.

Step 5.
Ebay.

Step 6.
Find a seller that is offering 252 red roses for $37.99 with FREE shipping.

Step 7.
Faint.

Step 8.
Realize that it's too good to be true and start researching.

Step 9.
Determine that the seller has tons of positive feedback and the flowers have a 60 day money back guarantee.

Step 10.
Then debate with yourself whether or not it is too early to buy flowers.

Step 11.
Tell self to shut the hell up and click Buy already.

Step 12.
Do a happy dance because you just saved $466.01.

Cha Ching.

That is amazing! AMAZING!

I can't tell you how excited I am for you [we ALL are!]

I have a little hint - if you don't mind me sharing - But when you say "wedding" vendors see dollar signs.

When Pooldad and I were to be married we went to a local bakery to order our cake. We never let on that we were getting married, but just that we wanted a white iced cake [the cake was iced white, the inside was lemon with raspberry] with simple decoration [you could ask for fancy if you like, no problem] They were really nice, made the most amazing cake and it was so, so, so much less money. We put coordinating flowers on the top [like your roses - we had daisies :)] Our cake was two tiers with really nice piping and whatnot - and maybe it is my personal preference - but the cake is to cut and eat - it shouldn't be the "centerpiece" of a wedding.

You and your lovely guy being married are the celebration! :) That is the most important thing.

[whew, I am sweating. I gave advice. eeeek!]

Can't wait to see more. Please give a link to the wedding blog if you make one - you will be on my blog roll. :)

Good luck JD.

Ker-ching! What a great saving you made on the flowers via ebay! My daughter is getting married on the 11th June, and it's surprising how it's mounting up. Just the little things really, but very exciting!

saving money is great cos weddings cost so much.

When I was getting married my MIL made our wedding invitations. They were simple but stylish and cost a fraction of the price.

One tip I will give you is that, it isn't the be all and end all for everything to be perfect on the day so don't fret about that, it's the things that don't go to plan that make the day that bit more memorable.

The most important thing is the two of you and it's your day, no one else's :)

I think I might have missed something too. When's the big event? Way to go on the flowers. Now about the dress, my friend bought it online and it was less than $200.00. It seems silly to spend so much money for something you're only going to wear one day, that's just ms. pragmatist me speaking obviously.
Super congrats!

Fake flowers can look really beautiful I had fake flowers for my wedding way back 26 years ago and my mum kept them as they looked so good any my sister used them for her wedding 3 years ago.

I agree with Skippy try not to say the word wedding as that word jacks the price up 2, 3 or even 4 times. When I order my sisters wedding cake I just said I want a nice cake after I picked the cake and got the price I said I what I wanted on it.

For invitations, they no longer have to be "engraved" to look good. You can pick any design, font and card stock you want and get them printed online, at a Kinko's-type place, or even at home! A couple of words of advice: 1. Do not print them on an inkjet printer. 2. before choosing a particular size of card, make sure the envelopes will not cost more to mail. Odd- or over-sized envelopes cost more to mail than regular-sized envelopes.

We were married outdoors, which really cut down on the flower needs. Maybe you can find a cool florist who thinks outside the box with interesting greenery as well. Have fun!

Well red roses seem like a good thing for a boquet. When is the wedding now?
