The Story

First: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE LOVELY MESSAGES!!!! They were seriously 20 times better than the messages my RL friends sent me. I was more excited to check the blog than to check my Facebook for comments! Imagine that!

Anyways....

Are you all anxious to hear my engagement story? No? Well too bad, cuz I'm gonna tell you anyway :)

We woke up to an absolutely gorgeous morning on Friday  (Friday the 13th might I add) and decided we would check out the Maid of the Mist.
Source
We got very lucky with missing crowds the entire vacation and the Maid was no exception. We only waited ten minutes before we got on the boat and made our way to the falls. It was freezing and really windy and really wet but it was amazing. A site that cannot be explained with words.

Feeling pretty freaking giddy about the whole thing, we got off the boat, took some pictures of ourselves in our ponchos and determined that we were hungry.

From the very start of vacation planning, I insisted that we just HAD to check out the Top of the Falls Restaurant.
Right behind where I stood to take this photo was the waterfall. Amazing view.

To get to the restaurant, you have to walk across Goat Island which is beautiful. It has trails that lead you right down to the falls.

Looks like you are pretty much in the water! And that bridge you see in the background? That's the bridge to Canada. But we couldn't go across because we didn't have passports. Boo.

Anywho...so upon walking to the restaurant, we happen upon a little trail off of the path that led right down to the water that was getting ready to go over the falls.

That's Boyfriend Fiance (that's going to take some getting use to), checking out the rapids. BUT! He was actually plotting!

I turned around to look at the water and watch it rush passed us. Then I turned around and he was on one knee.

It took my breath and I stared at him. He smiled and said, "Will you marry me?"

And I said squealed, "Are you serious?"

He shook his head and then I started jumping up and down saying "Yes, Yes, Yes" over and over again.

Then we kissed. Then we hugged. And then we cried.

It was truly perfect.

Now, I am pretty certain that I am going to have a heart attack before the wedding planning is over. Everyone is shouting out ideas and telling me things I HAVE to get and what I should skip. Like, I had no idea there were SO MANY DETAILS.

I've only been to two weddings. Ever. And the first one, I was like 5.

So I'm kinda hoping I can afford a wedding planner. Anyone need a job? :)

Oh lady, I hear you! I had NO idea all the nonsense that goes into wedding planning until we got engaged. Fair warning: you will be SO overwhelmed by everything at first, but it gets better. Key thing to remember is to do what is right for you guys, and what you both want. That's it.

Eeep! Congrats again!!

This is so beautiful - very special guy you have there. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!

You are going to just fine with the wedding - do as you wish and what the two of you want and don't be pressured into anything just because people say it's a "must have" or whatever.

And if she wasn't already help plan her daughter's wedding - my vote for wedding planner would be "Thisisme" - she is awesome! :)

Take care and all the best JD - so exciting and we are so, so happy fo ryou.

Keep it simple. That is what I'm going to do when I get married. I know I won't be able to handle all that planning. I'm so happy for you and him!

Here's my wedding planning advice, and it applies to EVERYBODY. You ready? Here it is:

Plan your budget carefully. Pick the one thing that means the most to you. Do you NEED the perfect dress? Or is the food the most important? The location? The date? The CAKE? Book/Arrange/Buy that most important thing FIRST. Now, look at your budget and build your wedding around that one most important thing.

Think about it: if the dress is the most important thing to YOU, then that's the thing that will stick out as being perfect or ruining the whole day. Consequently, the dress will determine the theme for the whole day. Did you pick a ball gown? Formal. Something more akin to a sundress? Casual. Everything else will follow, because you have your "centerpiece", no matter what it is.

CONGRATULATIONS! I do not remember what went into planning my wedding but I had little to do with the planning my mum did most of the work and planning. In some ways I wish I had more of an imput but such is life.

I love the photos you posted here that is one place I would love to go to I wonder how much it would cost hmmmmm maybe I should look into it.

Such a wonderful romantic story and one you will enjoy telling your whole life.
My advice, grab some mags, see if there are any Bridal Expos in your area. Decide the style, small intimate, casual, formal and just write all your ideas down.
Work out a budget and stick to it
See if there are things you can save by doing it yourself (invitations etc)
Most of all, just enjoy the process and try not to stress.
Oh and tell us all about it

OMG that is SO exciting!!! I have always wanted to go to Niagra Falls - it looks amazing and what a BEAUTIFUL proposal spot! That will definitely be a reason to keep visiting throughout the years! Many congratulations to you and your fiance!!!

Way to go boyfriend..er, fiance! Great story Jumble, glad he didn't fall in the drink.

I am an event planner, you know. No wedding under my belt except mine.

Best advice is...the wedding is not the marriage. When the wedding planning is getting you down, rinse and repeat.

Special Agent I are having our 20 year first date anniversary today

so I am all about the romance. Yay!

Oh, that is incredible, he's a keeper! That will be a great story to tell for years to come :D

I have been to the falls and it is just gorgeous, so glad you had a good time. As for a wedding planner, I myself have only been to one wedding in my life, so that's a no go but I do need a job, lol

Thank you for posting the story! How romantic. :-) He's a keeper for sure! I've been to ~100 weddings (I'm not kidding). As far as wedding planning goes, just start with a few basics: budget, date and location. Keep a spreadsheet and/or list to keep track of things (especially budget). There are tons of websites out there that are helpful, too. Most of all, ENJOY!
