Alice:Madness Returns

Source
I have finally done it. After squeezing in 30 minutes here and 15 minutes there, I have finally beat Alice:Madness Returns.

Now, Fiance is entirely too touchy about how I played the 2nd game before beating the 1st one, but I think he's just mad that I beat Madness Returns before he did.

I very rarely do video game reviews, but this game was so absolutely fantastic that I felt compelled to share it with you all.

Of course, most of you know that I love love love Alice in Wonderland. Pretty much everything about it. The old cartoon movie. The new movie with Johnny Depp as Mad Hatter. And if I remember correctly there was a TV series back in the day. Anyways, I love it all. Before Madness Returns came out, I didn't know that there was a part 1 to the game. But part 2 looked so amazing, I skipped part 1.

This game is dark. Alice is dark. The story is dark. I love it. I mean, look at her.

She's freakin' creepy.

It was actually pretty easy too, but Fiance and I believe that I have a depth perception problem, and this game involves a lot of jumping onto platforms and such that I think are right in front of Alice when they are actually like 10 feet away. I fell....a lot. But other than that, not too bad. She carries around a knife for slicing, a hobbit horse for smashing, a pepper sprayer thingy for shooting and a tea pot for throwing hot bombs at her opponents.

I would get so angry when I had to put the game down. It pretty much hooked me from the beginning. If I had had the time, I would have probably played for hours.

I highly recommend the game to anyone...except maybe children. It is a little...bloody. And when Alice is almost dead, she goes into Hysteria mode and she cannot be hurt, but she looks like this...

Again...creeeeepy.

Have a great weekend everyone! Stay inside, play some Alice and beat the heat! :)

Pink Shadow

So some of you may have no interest whatsoever in this post, so feel free to skip it. BUT for those of you that do care, DC Universe Online released Tuesday. And it is AWESOME. Okay, so some of the mechanics suck, like the camera, but all in all its amazing.

It's a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) like WoW, except you get to play around with super heroes. Or villains, whichever you prefer. Mostly, I just wanna show you my character.

Isn't she awesome!??! I'm totally not in love with the name, but I got tired of looking for a cooler one, so Pink Shadow it is! She has Mental Super Hero powers, she can fly, and she packs two pistols around. And she has pink eyes. And black high heeled boots. And awesome cleavage.

Making the character was half the fun. You can even choose different skin tones. Like you hero could look like a leopard if you like that kinda thing!

Also I want to give a HUGE thank you to The Empress from The Ranter's Box for giving me this award!

Ok, I'll shut up now. By the way, this classifies as a Half-Assed post.

Someone else asked me to guest post. I am honored.

Please check out I Can Has Catboy? and learn about what a big geek I am :)

Oh and leave nice comments. I know I don't have to ask because you all are amazing, but just in case you forgot.

I'm So Proud

{Sniff, sniff}

Boyfriend has started a blog.

I am so very proud.

I say it was Jess' idea, but he says he came up with it on his own, either way...he did it.

He isn't even finished with his first post yet and I'm already announcing it. That's how excited I am.

It's called Traditional Turn Based-Life As A Gamer. It's mostly going to consist of video game reviews (good and hilariously bad.) But he also sells games and we both think it is very necessary to share with the world the idiocy of some of his customers.

Check him out! Maybe your hubbies or boyfriends will like it, too!

Madden 11

So...I told Boyfriend about the blog before he left on Friday. At first he was mad that I hid it from him, but then he started reading it and was all, "Move over! I'm doing the video game reviews from now on."  I was kinda taken back, but he knows his shit (apparently I do not) and he is better at it than me. Enjoy :)

By far...the best Madden yet.
Streamed lined running, balance passing, and new play calling system makes this Madden the best for any level of fan.

The sprint button has been removed and more emphasis has been put on the use of the right stick. This gives the player more control and also makes finding holes a necessity. This also creates a new level of realism that was missing in previous Maddens.

The passing game is neither too easy nor too hard. You don't feel that every pass thrown is caught and also don't feel that you are only chance at getting yards is running. I saw very few unrealistic catches and unfair drops. The receivers caught when they should and dropped when they should.

The new play calling system picks plays for you and allows you to listen to your offensive and defensive coaches via headset. If you're not good at defense like I am, this automatic play system balances the game. The offensive play calling can be frustrating at times, but overall the A.I. is decent. If you are one of those people who wants to look at the entire playbook, you can turn this feature off. But for me, it made me feel more like I was the QB or the defensive captain.

In closing, EA Sports stepped up their game in response to natural motion and 505 games attempted competition. They finally listened to the consumer and made necessary changes.

As a side note, they added a physics engine to the tackle engine. These things make the game very good, but it still loses its luster after a season or two.

Note from Admin: I've never actually been into sports games, so I have no idea if he is telling the truth or not :)

BioShock 2 and Geekness

I finished BioShock 2 tonight and I was so very happy that I thought I'd post about it. So here I am. I just started playing it on Saturday, and it was kind of short, but I am done. Now, I think I'll play it again. BioShock is one of my favorites. I also discovered yet another birthday present that I must have.

Think Geek
Anyways, I wanted to celebrate with a funny geek video and I came across this. It is wonderful! There is someone out there for everyone.

When I showed this to boyfriend, he was all "Can we have a wedding like that?" And being the girl that I am, I was like, "We're getting married!?" and he said no. Tease.

Enjoy!

I got a New Toy!

Last night felt like Christmas in July!! When I got home from work, I noticed something different about my entertainment center. Upon exploring the change, I discovered this...

Yes, the new XBOX 360! Isn't it pretty?? For all of you 360 fans, you are probably either aware of the new console or already own one. I was going to wait and buy mine until all the fuss was done and over with, but once again my boyfriend managed to surprise me.

The new design is super awesome. It's sleek, slim and shiny. It's so, so much quieter, too. My favorite thing is the cool little button that you simply touch to eject the disc. Apparently the PS3 has had a similar feature all along, but then again who cares. (Sorry PS3 lovers)

Anyways, the new console doesn't use the memory cards, so you don't need that anymore. A simple flash drive works on this and all new updated 360's. It has a 250GB Hard Drive, built in Wi-Fi and is all set up and ready for the Kinect. Don't know what the Kinect is? You must go here.

Well, that's all I've seen different about it so far, but it's pretty much a must have if you ask me.

Alan Wake

So, I'm a total gamer geek. So much that my significant other is the manager of a popular video game store and that's one of the reasons why I love him so much. Hehe. It makes me happy when he brings me games to try out. So I introduce to you, Alan Wake.

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I could go on and on about how good this game looks and how fantastic the visuals are, but you can get a glimpse of that in the screen shot.

Here is Wikipedia's description of the game:

The plot follows suspense-thriller writer Alan Wake in uncovering the mystery behind the disappearance of his wife while on vacation in idyllic small-town Bright Falls, and having to deal with blackouts and visions of characters and ideas from his latest novel, which he can't remember writing, coming to life.

Through some parts of this game, I am utterly bored. You have to watch a lot of clips. Granted, they are necessary for the story line, but it seems like I watched more than I played. Then, the parts that you actually get to play are pretty freaking awesome. It's a thriller, action, adventure type of game and you have to kill these people that have the darkness in them with a flash light and a gun. The flash light 'rids the darkness' and then you can pop a couple of bullets in them. BUT the game play actually stops to show you where your enemies are approaching from. So, nothing really surprises you, unless of course one gets behind you and starts chopping you up with his axe.
You have to go through and beat little missions that lead you to your final mission and each ones unravels a little part of the mystery. If anything, I had to keep playing this game to find out what happened next. It really keeps you interested if you like suspense thrillers.

All in all, it was a good game and I felt very accomplished when I finished it. Would I play it again? Probably not. But there are very few that I would.

Enjoy this awesome video clip from the escapistmagazine.com. This dude reviews like every game out there and its hilarious!!
