Don't react to anything when you're angry

I was a good kid in school. I got good grades, attended all of my classes (until my senior year), and never got into any fights. But I did get in trouble. Once.

It was my very first day of high school. I was awkward and nervous and the school was three times the size of my last school. I got lost going to my third period class and some senior showed me how to get there. Then when it came lunch time, I was overwhelmed at the amount of students that were in the cafeteria fighting their way through the huge line to get crappy school lunch food. In my area, my high school was the largest high school around. For example, Boyfriend graduated with a class of 58. I graduated with a class of 630.

Anyways, I saw my older sister walking towards the cafeteria doors which was where I was standing in line to get food. I opened the door, waved her in, and let her cut in front of me. The Vice Principal appeared out of freaking no where, got in my face and said, “MY OFFICE! NOW!”

I nearly cried. No lie. She didn’t follow me to her office though. I actually had to go to the Principal’s office and ask where the Vice Principal’s office was. He showed me. I went to open the door and it was locked. So I sat down in front of the door and waited.

For 45 minutes.

The bell for my next class rang and I got up and went to class. But I was furious. I was so angry that she made me miss my lunch that I couldn’t think of anything other than that mean VP. My stomach was rumbling and I don’t know about you, but when I’m hungry, I get cranky.
We Heart It

I asked my teacher for a hall pass, walked back to the VP’s office, walked in and said. “You made me miss my lunch. I waited on you for 45 minutes.”

She looked at me really strangely and said, “Who are you?”

I said. “I bet you went and ate your lunch, didn’t you?”

She stood up then. “Did I send you to my office?”

“Yes you did. I sat on the dirty floor waiting and you never showed.”

“What were you in trouble for?”

I stopped pacing her floor then and looked at her. “It must not have been too serious if you don’t even remember.” And then I left.

Three DAYS later, I passed her in the hallway. She stopped me and said, “I remember now.”

Apparently opening the cafeteria door and letting someone cut in line is “completely forbidden” in high school. I explained that it was my sister and I just needed her to help me figure out what to do and where to go. I got detention. No freaking joke.

To this day, I cannot stand that woman. I actually see her in town every once in a while and if looks could kill, we’d both be dead.

She forgot about you and then gave you detention THREE DAYS later when she bothered to remember? Posh. Total bullshit on her part.

For the record, I'm glad looks can't kill because I'd miss you in the blogverse. {{hugs}}

I think the VP should heed the "Remember WHAT you react to when you are angry." in lieu of don't react to anything.

This is such a heartbreaking story JM - It would just make me so sad to know one of my kids spent their first day in HS like this. She sounds like an absolute tyrant and bully.

I am sorry.

And she is only giving you a "if looks could kill" look because she KNOWS she screwed up. Big.

First off, I love that you actually gave her some sass. I would have started bawling and just waited and waited. I can't deal when people are mean to me.. much less on the first day of high school!

Second.. what a bitch. How the eff were you supposed to know all the rules on the first day?!

That VP was pretty petty & horrible, wasn't she? Over such a stupid little thing too! I'm with you when I'm hungry - I get really ratty!

What a sad and silly situation. What a way to welcome a new kid to high school.
At my kids school, the new ones are looked after biy a "big brother/sister program until they find their feet. Older students volunteer to take part.
The woman sounds like more bureaucrat than educator

Gosh...you are brave...I'd never have been able to do that....and she seems like an arrogant snob...just my thought.

I do tend to agree with you all. She is definitely all of the above. I'm not sure why this story popped in my head, but it did and I thought I'd share!

Wow. That's above and beyond the call of bitchiness. I think your younger self did better than I would have, by far.

That is horrible. I can't believe she gave you detention three days later!

Booo what a mean VP. I remember on my first week of high school I called my mom crying because the book room closed even though there were only 3 people left in line. Thankfully my mom already knew the VP and she then immediately got the book switched for me.
