5 Things That Drive Me Crazy: Winter Edition

Snow-By now, most of you should know that I hate snow. But it’s beautiful, you might say. Yeah, it’s beautiful the first time, second time and even the third time you ever see it. After that, it’s just a huge pain in the ass. Especially when I have to drive in it. And shovel a walkway to my car. And have wet feet everyday because dress shoes (which I have to wear to work) are never insulated.

Illness- It never fails. This is the time of year when I get so sick that I feel like I’m going to die. Whether it is the common cold, the flu, strep throat, bronchitis, or even the stomach flu, I’m down for the count.

The Cold- For the past week it hasn’t been over 20 degrees Fahrenheit here. It is freakin’ cold. My body aches from shivering so much. Not to mention the ice that forms EVERYWHERE due to the below freezing temperatures. I haven’t fallen yet (knock on wood) but I’m sure it’s coming.

Drivers- Everyone in West Virginia should be fully aware that we get snow. Most of the time, a lot of snow. But what you think would be common knowledge, obviously isn’t. Even a light dusting of snow sends everyone into a panic and they drive like idiots.

Fuel Costs- My furnace requires fuel to run. For 100 gallons we had to fork over nearly $400. Chances are we are going to have to get more before winter is over.

Happy Friday everyone!

You finish all of that with Happy Friday? Gotta love you, JM. I don't like to be cold either, but it's been cold as hell for us here in SC. I am not looking forward to walking in a parade today while trying to herd our dogs.

Living in Maryland, people FREAK. OUT. about the snow, it's ridiculous. I'm from NY, so it's no big deal for me, but it's like zombies are attacking when it snows. People just don't know what to do.

While I don't mind the cold outdoors, please for the love of god make it warm inside! My nails literally turn purple every day at work. This place is an ice box.

This rant resonates with me, truly. Winter drivers drive me batshit insane. They're all trying to kill me, and I don't appreciate it.

I know it's not really an attractive option, but I recommend snow boots to wear to work and changing in to dress shoes when you get there... Then your feet will be all dry and warm! I do this when it rains because I'm short and wear flats, so my feet and pants would be sopping wet if it weren't for my trusty rainboots.

bleh... that's how I feel about winter after about 2 months. Right now all I want is snow. I live in Canada (obviously) and my hometown often gets like major whammys from the great lake effect, here in Ottawa however, they keep promising us storms and we get nothing! We have like 1 cm.

On Sunday we were supposed to be getting 40+cm and the boy and I were so stoked that finally it'd look like Christmas... but now they're calling for rain.

I hate the Cold, I can definitely do without that!!

I alternate between hating snow or the cold more. This weekend it will definitely be the snow as they are predicting nearly a foot of that crap here in Minneapolis.

But we always have a week somewhere in the middle of winter where it doesn't get above zero. No, not Celsius... Below zero Freakin' degrees Fahrenheit for a week!

One of these days I'm going to dig out a picture (hope I can find it) of my Mom and Dad in Fairmont, WV in the winter in the 1940's. The snow and ice were unreal!! I just hate it now because of my arthritis so Myrtle Beach is where we headed. It's been pretty freakin' cold here but no snow and I'll keep it that way!

JM, sounds like drivers in W.V. are in a dead heat with those that litter the Indiana highways. Almost every year, after the first snow fall, you would think that the majority of drivers are transplants from California because of the way they drive.

To think I complain about the weather here in Los Angeles when it hits 49 at night sometimes. I don't think i'd survive 20.

Yep and the fact that they sand and salt the stupid roads, so EVERYTHING is covered in grime. I hate it that my mud room turns into a sand box on a daily basis from people walking inside in their wet boots. >(

Haha, looks like I'm not the only one that doesn't like snow :)

@Barb- Fairmont is where Dad lives! I'd love to see that pic.

Snow, you can keep it! It has caused total chaos here in Scotland. Motorways have ground to a halt and people have had to spend the night in their cars.......madness! I personally would never survive that lol

Hey I am with Ingrid re the boots, just to the car and to the door of your office! People here, in winter, live in wellies (wellington boots) not attractive but do the job. I DO NOT own a pair of these, as I am way too trendy. Ha ha ha

Well, JM, I can't really share your sentiment for snow. For someone who's only seen snow twice in her life, I wish it would snow everyday. But then again, I love the rain, so winter sits well with me.

Ok, I promise I will never, ever, ever, ever complain about our winters again .... ok I know I can't keep that promise (because I totally freeze when it gets down to 40) ... but will someone please build me a snowman.

Bless your little heart! The great thing about winter in Louisiana is that it only snows about once every ten years - and even then it's only about an inch or two!

Haha thanks for the comments everyone! Nice to hear other points of view!

P.S. I'm totally jealous of everyone that doesn't get snow.

I join you in hating snow. I'd also add one more reason for it. As people here sprinkle salt to melt the snow on the walksides so noone kills themselves, but it ruins shoes. Oh, and the trains get late and ocassionally don't come at all. You made me laugh with 'happy friday' in the end :D

Greetings from Poland, Aga.
