This is the only time that winter is fun.

My friends and I are planning a get together to go sled riding soon, which reminded me of what happened when we went last year.

There is this park near my house that you can go fishing, camping, swimming, hiking, and biking at. In the winter, they rope off the ponds and make this huge hill a sled riding hill. They keep a fire going and serve hot chocolate and tons of people come out to play.

First, every single one of us was hung over. (Sorry Dad) We had had a bit too much to drink the night before, but no one would admit that they were too sick to sled ride. Remember Fill in Boyfriend? Well, he was the first to go down the hill. On a round sled.

Needless to say, he spun the whole way down the hill. When he reached the bottom, he rolled off of his sled and proceeded to puke everywhere.

That was enough for me. I decided that I would simply be the photographer.  Hubby agreed with me.
Taking a picture of Hubby taking a picture

After watching them go down the hill a few times, I get a tap on my shoulder. Two of my friends that I had invited but didn't think would show up were standing there. I hadn't seen them in a long time and they don't live around here so we don't get too hang out too often.

They both immediately admit that they had never been sled riding. I handed them my sled and told them to have fun.

I watched as they walked up the hill and then waited their turn to come down. They both got onto one sled and stormed down the hill at a speed that would have probably made me shit my pants. Then they hit a bump. The bump sent them flying in the air, but they landed back on the sled. Safely.

Or so I thought. At the bottom of the hill, where I stood safe with my camera, they both got up. One was holding his hand over his mouth, and then other was holding her hand over her nose. Trails of bright red blood hit the snow as they made their way towards me.

Evidently, when they hit the bump, the girls face had smacked into the back of the boys head and made her nose bleed. His head had hit the handle on the sled and made his mouth bleed.

The girls walks up to me, hands me the sled and says, "No thanks."

We had to go inside and get them all cleaned up. We finished the task at hand and the boy thought he'd give sledding another try.

Halfway down the hill he crashed into another sledder and nearly broke his arm.

They left after that. We stayed and ended up having a lot of fun. Even though most of us ended up at the bottom of the hill sipping on hot chocolate and watching strangers risk their lives.

Haha oh geez.. those poor, poor beginner sledders. I'm betting they won't be doing that again. Ever.

That does sound like a lot of fun. My granddaughters go sledding a lot becuase there are some good hills near them. My son will take them when he can. It's so great. If I was younger and could get on and off a sled I'd be right there.

Smart woman. Hot chocolate is definitely where it's at. Still, snow sounds more fun when it happens to you...

Holy crap - I have never seen any snow like that in my life! I would have been freaking out. I would be sledding, no lie.

If that was my first time sledding - I would've definitely given it up. Dang. Doesn't sound like fun at all.

I do [did] love sledding. I love watching my kids do it - we have a lot of great hills here.

Those snow pictures are great! You obviously had a great time playing around in the snow. I think I would have just stayed indoors with some hot chocolate and donuts and watched you all from a window!! LOL!

Love the pics.

The one thing I miss about being back home in PA is fun snow filled days riding down hills on my sled.

I haven't been sledding in years (real sledding). I loved the flying saucer.

My family owns a tubing hill though... my dad used to own 10% and was the one that came up with idea, but he sold his portion and my aunt and uncle who run it now. It's awesome. You have legit tubes, you get a lift to the top and go down MASSIVE hills.

So pretty much since that opened in 1998 I haven't been GTing, Flying Saucering, Crazy Carpeting or Tobogganing...

I actually haven't been tubing in a couple years either... perhaps next time I go home!

Sledding is the ONLY thing that makes snow worth it. It is so much freaking fun! At no age does it stop being fun. Tubing and sledding are the best.

This sounds like so much fun! I haven't gone sledding in so many years. It's heartbreaking! Maybe I will venture out this week. But I will leave the tragedies behind... hopefully.

Didnt think that sledding was a combat sport.
Would love to try it one day.

I AM ALL ABOUT SLEDDING, but I'm with you on this one. No hungover sledding. I don't even know if I'd go hungover sled-watching. I'm more of a stay-in-bed-and-watch-trash-TV hungover girl. The less I have to think, the better.

Hungover....hmmm...i elect to believe in this instance you were led astray by your less than reputable friends...otherwise, I'd have to ground you :-)

That is one of the negatives about living in Australia - there are very limited places for sledding!
